The film follows Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock), a brilliant medical engineer on her first space shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney). During a routine spacewalk, a cloud of debris from a destroyed Russian satellite hurtles towards them. The shuttle is obliterated, leaving Stone and Kowalski tumbling through the void of space with no communication to Earth and rapidly depleting oxygen.
