Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac: Vol. I is less a traditional erotic drama and more a philosophical dialogue. The film begins with the discovery of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, beaten and lying in an alley.
