According to FANUC’s 2025 roadmap presented at IMTS 2024, the line will evolve further:

Is it a virus? Is it a compiler? Or is it a secret backdoor to faster programming?

Historically, many FANUC PC-side utilities were 32-bit applications. They relied on older DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) to communicate with the robot via FANUC’s FRRJ protocol. "New" execution files are increasingly being compiled for 64-bit environments. This is crucial for modern SCADA systems and HMIs that run on 64-bit Windows OS, ensuring that memory management for large program files (like vision position data) is handled efficiently.

FANUC also removed the deprecated telnet fallback option, which was a common attack vector in older installations.
