Nine years have passed since Meggie's mother disappeared, and she has grown up with a deep sense of loss and longing. When Mo receives a mysterious book, "Inkheart," Meggie learns about her family's past and her father's extraordinary ability. As they embark on a journey to find a way to return her mother to the real world, they are joined by Dustfinger (Andy Serkis), a fire-juggler with a troubled past.
Alex decided to write. He cleared a table beside the Storywell and dipped a pen—ink real, not the printed kind—into a chipped inkwell. He wrote slowly, each sentence deliberate, each character given a small, stubborn life of their own. He wrote about a library that had forgotten how to host readers, about a fox who learned to fold words into origami, about Calder, the mapmaker who finally drew his own map. As he wrote, he spoke the sentences out loud. The book listened; its edges softened.
