The 2019 Spanish science-fiction horror film The Platform (El Hoyo) emerged as a surprise global phenomenon on streaming platforms, lauded for its brutal allegory of class stratification and social cooperation. It left audiences with a haunting, albeit ambiguous, conclusion regarding the possibility of systemic change. Consequently, the announcement of a sequel, The Platform 2 (released in 2024), was met with a mixture of anticipation and skepticism. Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who also helmed the original, the film returns to the vertical dystopia known as "The Pit."
